Early 1900s, American, from the Globe Wernicke Co., Cincinnati OH. Quartersawn oak sectional or stacking file cabinet, in the 298 style (quartersawn oak, lighter stain, with brass oxidized hardware). A single step back arrangement, with seven sections total, including 1 drawer base, 1 standard size file section, 2 deep barrister bookcase sections, 1 vertical file document section, 1 shallow barrister bookcase section, and 1 top. Standard file section has hinged drawer fronts that tilt forward. Vertical file section has the suspending device which allows hands free access to files. The lower barrister sections interiors measure 15.5d x 39.5w x 10h. The upper barrister section interior measures 11d x 39.5w x 10h.
This pieces has undergone a refinishing and restoration in the past. The back pieces and bookcase bottoms have been replaced and are appropriate in form and function. The base drawer pulls have been replaced, but the majority of the hardware is original. In light of the refinishing, this cabinet is in overall excellent condition today.
