Antique Globe Wernicke Double Stepback File Cabinet #557
Early 1900s, American, from the Globe Wernicke Co., Cincinnati OH. Quartersawn oak sectional or stacking file cabinet, in the 298 style (quartersawn oak, rich lighter stain, with brass oxidized hardware). Double step back arrangement, with rare deep cabinet section at bottom. Seven pieces total, including 1 base, 1 deep stepback cabinet section, 1 check/card file section, 2 D.R. sections, and 1 top. Sliding door cabinet section has adjustable or removable shelves. Large file card section drawers hold standard or legal size paper and measure 9w x 14d x 4.75h internally. Rare D.R. section boxes are made of substantial tarboard with black cloth fronts, and fitted with label holder and ring pull. Interior dimensions of the boxes are 8 7/8"w x 11 5/8"d x 2 3/8" h.
Piece is in overall very good to excellent original condition, with original hardware. Top in very good condition with some minor staining. Base (not cabinet) is a modern reproduction, very well done in form and function. Original bases in this size are very difficult to source.
