Antique Globe Wernicke G E D Double Stepback Barrister Bookcase

$3,450.00

Early 1900s, American, from the Globe Wernicke Co, Cincinnati OH. A complete and rare combination barrister bookcase, all in the 398 style (maple or birch, rich mahogany stain, with brass oxidized hardware). Six pieces total, including one G base, two rare G 18" bookcase sections, stepping back to one E 13.5" bookcase section, stepping back to one D 12.25" bookcase section, and one top. Bookcase sizes are interior height - G bookcases are 13" deep, E bookcase is 12" deep, and D bookcase is 9.5" deep.

This is a project set and has been assembled over the years. The base of the project was the G sections, which are very hard to come by. Restoration/repairs include a reproduction G base (original G bases are exceptionally rare); correcting the top G bookcase step back that was added/modified at some point in the past; one G bookcase glass pane replaced; E bookcase section needed a repair to back and a new bottom; E bookcase glass pane replaced.

Considering the above, overall in good to very good condition, with original hardware, matching labels and finish. With some slight variation to finish/stain color and/or sheen, and staining to right E side interior wall. Overall cohesive and a very good example of this rare configuration. An excellent piece for wine or liquor collections.

Dimensions below for the overall piece.
