Early 1900s, American, from the Globe Wernicke Co., Cincinnati OH, but produced in the London UK factory. The Ideal series was Globe Wernicke's most expensive, well built, and well appointed barrister bookcases. This particular bookcase is the 598 style (solid mahogany, dark rich finish, brass oxidized hardware). Eight sections total, including one drawer base, three 10.25" bookcases, two 8.5" bookcases, one 8.5" locker/cabinet section, and one top. Bookcase dimensions are interior height, all bookcases are 9.5" deep. All bookcase sections are double diamond leaded glass, available only on the Ideal series bookcases. Features include stepback drawer base, paneled sides, deluxe hardware, acanthus leaves and dentil molding to the top section. In overall very good to excellent original condition, including original finish, London labels, hardware, glass and drawer pulls. One pane of glass has a clean break, and included keys are custom made replacements that work for the locks to both cabinets and the bottom bookcase lock. A fine and rare example of the style.
